Created in 1991, the BHPS is a multi-purpose study conducted by the ESRC UK Longitudinal Studies Centre (ULSC), together with the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER) at the University of Essex. Designed as an annual survey of each adult (aged 16 years and over) member of a nationally-representative sample of more than 5,000 households, the survey aims to further understanding of social and economic change at the individual and household level in Britain. The data from each wave is available within a year of the completion of fieldwork. The data are released through the UK Data Archive:
