External Links: Conducted every ten years, the Census is the most reliable source of statistics relating to the country’s population. In essence, a Census is a count of all people and households, and the latest Census, conducted by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) for England and Wales, was held on 29 April 2001. The General Register Office for Scotland (GROS) is responsible for conducting the census in Scotland, and the Northern Ireland Statistical and Research Agency for Northern Ireland.
