The EVS is a large-scale, cross-national, longitudinal survey research programme, initiated by academics at the European Value Systems Study Group (EVSSG) in the late 1970s. Having undertaken 3 waves to date, the survey seeks to explore the similarities and differences between the moral and social values of Europeans. The primary domains of values covered by these studies are family, work, social relations, religion, economics, and politics. The next wave of the EVS is due to take place in 2008.
