Datasets: General Household Survey (GHS)

The GHS, conducted annually by the Social Survey Division of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), is a multi-purpose continuous survey of approximately 9,000 households and about 16,000 adults aged 16 and over living in private households. The survey started in 1971 and has been carried out continuously since then, except for breaks in 1997/98 (when the survey was reviewed) and 1999/2000 when the survey was re-developed. The survey includes questions on population and fertility, family and household information, housing, health, employment and education; it therefore provides an indispensable opportunity to examine the inter-relationship between these important areas of social policy and to monitor changes in their associations over time.
